These invisible plastics circulate through our environment and eventually, our bodies. And it’s not just the microplastics — people who use acrylic paint are also exposed to VOCs (volatile organic compounds), gases released as the paint dries. Short-term exposure can cause headaches, dizziness, and irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat. Long-term exposure has been linked to asthma, cancer, and even damage to the central nervous system. Environmental Impact Every time acrylic paint dries, it becomes plastic. Tiny flakes break off, turning into microplastics that slip through water treatment systems and flow into the ocean.
